Challenge #12

So here it is the layout we are both pretty proud of. This challenge was to have half or more of the page with journalling and we had to journal about "why we scrapbook? why we are storytellers", the wordart was given to us and had to be on the page, and we had to have a photo of each of us and it had to be in the bottom right. Leigh made the page and we each did our journalling. Then I added the journalling and the wordtags to the page Leigh had created. We worked closely together and it came out great, don't you think!

So if you want to read it, here is the journalling:
Kerri:
Why do I scrap? Good question, I have always loved taking photos and of any holiday I have taken since I had my own camera I have made photo albums. Then digital cameras and pictures came around and I found the wonders of a photo book. And have told the story of my holidays in them. Mostly I let the pictures do the talking with only small additions of place names and people. That said, I have always kept a diary on my holidays and together the photo albums and diary make it whole. From there it was only a small step to finding "digital scrapbooking" and it came at a perfect time in my life. My Mother was just recovering from lung cancer and my husband was about to start a new job which took/takes him away from us during the week. Finding digital scrapbooking has saved me from feeling alone in the evenings. As soon as my boys are in bed, I am on the computer, keeping up with my online friends, scrapping, designing. I swear there are never enough hours in my evenings for all that I want to be able to do. My layouts still lack journalling, I am so used to the pictures doing their own talking, but slowly I am learning that sometimes they don't and that I need to tell the story on the page too. This Race for one has gotten me journalling and really liking the outcome of the layouts. So thank you NDISB for putting on this race. I have loved every challenge and minute of it.

Leigh:
I tell the stories my Mom never told us. My parents made myself and my 3 siblings photo albums when we were younger, all they contained were the pictures with no names, no dates, and no occasions listed. After I had my daughter I was looking for a better way to preserve the memories, some way to tell my daughter the stories behind the pictures long after I could remember or was gone. I had tried papter scrapping but I just couldn't bring myself to cut the pictures up. When I found digital scrapbooking it was perfect. This way I could manipulate the photo's anyway I wanted without feeling like I was destroying them. When my Mom died, making sure the stories were told became even more important to me. My Mom was always the one we went to for the information about the pictures in albums, and now that link is gone. I was determined to make sure my kids, and my family would have these all important pages, my stories. So, for now, I am the storyteller, and I hope someday to pass this on to my daughter so that she may someday be the storyteller. So the stories of our family will live on, for more than just my lifetime.

Thanks again for all your comments, and now fingers xed that we get drawn out of the hat next week. There is actually a 13th Challenge we would have to do together, but it is optional, and we haven't decided yet, if we are going for it or not! Any views on that?!

Wow, that sure is a page to be proud of! LOVE all the journaling, really lovely to read it all.

Leigh, your story is so touching, the reason you scrap! I think most just want the pictures to look nice, but you really want the stories to be told. So wonderful!

Kerri, I realized something I'd rather not. ;) If you move closer to Florian's work, and he's is home during the week again, we'll probably gonna see less of you... Aw, I'll miss that! ;)

As for the 13th challenge...
I'd love to see more of your work together.
So if you like the challenge, and have the time, I'd say GO FOR IT!!!
:)
